School Choice Tax Credit

The New Idaho School Choice Tax Credit (House Bill 93) is a refundable tax credit that reimburses up to $5,000 of tuition expenses per student. The application start date is Thursday, January 15, and ends March 15. The tax commission prioritizes giving the tax credit based on family income level and application date. Applying near January 15 will increase your chances of receiving it.

A couple of things to note about the bill:

1. It is a refundable tax credit. This means that if you spend tuition in 2025, you can receive full reimbursement from the state for that expense in 2026 (this better than a typical write off).

2. You can apply for one advanced credit that will allow you to pay for next year's tuition ahead of time.

3. Funds are limited. Not all who apply will receive the credit, so please fill out the application early.

4. You can receive up to $5,000 per student.

5. You need a personal TAP account to apply. Sign up Link: https://idahotap.gentax.com/tap/_/
