ABOUT MRS. VANDERWALL
WHY I BECAME A TEACHER
  • I was born in Emmett, Idaho – the second of 4 children. My parents raised us in a strong Christian household where we were taught the truths of the Bible, the importance of living in fellowship with other Christians, and the value of spending time in prayer from an early age.

  • I had the privilege of being homeschooled for a while in my early elementary ages and then I attended private, Christian schools from 2nd grade-12th grade. It was really the amazing teachers I had in the private schools that I attended that grew my interest for becoming a teacher and having a classroom of my own one day.

  • From age 8 onward, I never wavered on the idea of wanting to be a teacher and I pursued that dream all the way through attaining my master’s degree.

EDUCATION

  • BA in Elementary Education from Corban University, Salem, OR

  • MA in Education Literacy, Early Literacy from Boise State University

EXPERIENCE

  • Taught Kindergarten & 1st grade combined at Calvary Christian School in Nampa for 1 year

  • Taught Kindergarten at Falcon Ridge Public Charter School in Kuna for 4 years

FAMILY AND OUTSIDE INTERSTS

  • My husband, Sam, and I have been married for 12 years

  • We have three children who all attend Zion: Noah (4th grade), Chloe (1st grade), Melanie (PreK4)

  • I enjoy playing city league volleyball, exercising on my Peloton, and playing games

WHY I TEACH AT ZION

  • I attended Zion for 2nd and 3rd grade

  • I have had kids of my own attending Zion for the last 4 years

  • After having taught in both public and private schools, I have found that private school is where my heart lies. I love the ability to bring Jesus and God’s Holy Word into the classroom. I love being able to pray with my students and to encourage them in Scripture memorization, and to teach them how to see life through a Biblical Worldview.

  • I have gotten to know the staff and families of Zion quite well over the past several years and am so excited to be teaching in this community of amazing staff, parents, and students.

CLASSROOM MISSION STATEMENT

  • My goal for my classroom, first and foremost, is teaching my students to understand who they are in Christ via helping them know more about His character and Who He is. Second to that is helping my students achieve their greatest educational potential. Classical education provides the opportunity for my students and I to learn and grow together, to take ownership for our roles in the classroom, and to see the sky as the limit! I love a good challenge and I like to present my students with opportunities to conquer things that may be a current challenge for them. Showing them just what they are capable of and teaching them to push themselves in a healthy manner is of utmost importance to me.
